ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf has resigned from the coveted post, local media reported from Pakistan.
Ashraf became part of PCB board of directors on July 6, 2023, when he assumed the position of chairman of the board, replacing Najam Sethi.
‘’I have worked to improve cricket, but we cannot work like this’’, and he said, ‘’according to people present at the ongoing committee meeting.’’
“Now the Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar will decide who he will appoint in my place”, he added.
Pakistan played in two major tournaments during Ashraf’s tenure the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup but fell short in both tournaments.
The Men in Green didn’t reach the final at the continental tournament, but they didn’t reach the semi-final at the World Cup either.
After the World Cup, Babar Azam stepped down as captain in all formats and was replaced by Shan Masood (Test) and Shaheen Afridi (T20I).
The board also got rid of the coaching staff led by then manager Mickey Arthur. They were transferred to the National Cricket Academy but later resigned.
Former captain Mohammad Hafeez was appointed as the team leader while former pacer Wahab Riaz was appointed as the head of the selection committee.
Social Media Reaction
The team failed to win a single game under the new management. They were whitewashed 3–0 in the test series against Australia, while New Zealand lost the first four games of the T20I series after one match.
