On Monday, Sirajul Haq, the leader of Jamat-e-Islami (JI), declared his resignation from the party role after the loss in the general elections on February 8.
محنت اور کوشش کے باوجود کامیابی نہین دلا سکا، الیکشن میں شکست کی ذمہ داری قبول کرتے ہوئے جماعت اسلامی کی امارت سے استعفی دے دیا ہے۔

Qaiser Sharif, the Information Secretary of Jamat-e-Islami (JI), also confirmed the news. He mentioned that Secretary-General Ameerul Azeem has called for an emergency meeting of the central shura on February 17 at the party’s headquarters in Mansoora Lahore.
“The central shura’s meeting will start at 10am and discuss the situation after the resignation of JI’s Ameer,” he added.
It’s important to note that Jamat-e-Islami (JI), a religious-political party, didn’t win any seats in the National Assembly (NA). They secured two seats in Sindh, three in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one in the Balochistan assemblies.
Sirajul Haq became the leader of JI in 2014, succeeding the outgoing chief Syed Munawar Hassan. In 2014, out of 31,311 party office-bearers, 25,533 voted, and Sirajul Haq secured the majority.
After serving as JI chief for five years, he was re-elected in 2019. Now, after a decade of service, he has resigned from his post.
Earlier in the day, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, the elected member of the Sindh Assembly and JI Karachi chief, announced his resignation from PS-129, citing ‘rigging’ in the 2024 elections. Rehman claimed to have received 26,000 votes according to FORM 45 but was declared the winner with 30,464 votes.
He pointed out that a PTI-backed independent candidate received more votes than him and, in protest against the ‘rigged’ results, he decided to step down from the seat.
