Apps and websites that use (Artificial Intelligence) AI to undress women in photos have seen an alarming increase in popularity. Drawing the attention of researchers and privacy advocates, according to a Bloomberg report.

Social media analytics firm Graphika revealed that a whopping 24 million people visited these undressing websites in September alone, highlighting the alarming rise in non-consensual pornography driven by advances in artificial intelligence.

The so-called “nudify” service uses popular social networks for marketing, and the number of links promoting undressing apps on platforms like X and Reddit has surged more than 2,400 percent since the beginning of the year.

These services use AI technology to digitally undress individuals, primarily focused on women.

This distribution raises significant legal and ethical issues. As images are often obtained from social media without the consent or knowledge of those involved.

This worrying trend extends to the potential for harassment, with ads suggesting customers can create and send nude images to digitally naked people.

Steps to block keywords related to these undressing apps

In response, Google has outlined a policy against sexually explicit content in ads and actively removes violating content.

However, X and Reddit have not yet responded to requests for comment.

Despite growing concerns, there is currently no federal law in the United States. That specifically prohibits the creation of deepfake pornography.

TikTok and Meta Platforms have taken steps to block keywords related to these undressing apps.

TikTok warned users that the term “undress” may be associated with content that violates its policies. But Meta Platforms Inc. has declined to comment further on the company’s actions.

As technology continues to evolve, the ethical and legal challenges posed by deepfake pornography. That creates an urgent need for comprehensive regulation to protect individuals from the non-consensual and harmful use of AI-generated content.
