Deaths during attacks in KP and Balochistan: Elections 2024

In Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, four police officers lost their lives in an attack on a police patrol. The local police chief, Rauf Qaisrani, mentioned that there were bomb blasts and gunfire aimed at a police convoy in the Kulachi area. The affected area has been secured, and more investigation is being carried out.

The temporary Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Justice (retired) Arshad Hussain Shah, spoke out against the attacks in Tank and Dera Ismail Khan. According to the news, there was a shooting in Tank where one person died, but the official details about the incident and the number of casualties are not confirmed.

The chief minister assured everyone that these incidents wouldn’t stop the police from doing their job. He said the whole nation and the government support the police and other law enforcement agencies.

In Balochistan’s Kharan, two Levies and police officers died. The district’s deputy commissioner, Munir Ahmed Soomro, said it occurred when a Levies vehicle hit a landmine on the way to a polling station.

Seven security personnel got hurt, and the ones who were seriously injured were taken to Quetta for treatment.

Meanwhile, Mohsin Dawar, the National Democratic Movement (NDM) Chairman and former lawmaker, wrote a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja about the “very serious and concerning security situation in Tappi, North Waziristan in NA-40.”

In the letter, which he posted on his account, Dawar mentioned that militants have been threatening the people and the polling staff in that area.

He said,

“Three of our female polling agents narrowly avoided attacks on the morning of February 8, “

 He further said,

 “Taliban in the area now control the polling stations.”

Dawar also mentioned that he wrote a letter about the situation to the district returning officer, but it was ignored.

“The election commission needs to quickly pay attention to the situation and take necessary steps to keep the local people and the polling staff safe,”
