Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi have been allowed to go free on bail in the case involving the May 9 violence.
A judge named Malik Ejaz from the Anti-Terrorism Court listened to the requests for bail from Shah Mehmood and Imran Khan, the founder of PTI. The people who wanted them to be punished asked for more time, but the judge said no and gave bail to Imran Khan in 12 cases and Shah Mehmood in 13 cases.
Before this, the Punjab Home Department shared a detailed report about the May 9 riots. The report said that military places were attacked after Imran Khan got arrested, and it seemed like these events were planned in advance.
Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi, have been granted bail in the case related to the May 9 riots. The Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Malik Ijaz presided over the case and directed both accused individuals to provide surety bonds amounting to Rs1 lac each. Imran Khan has now been granted bail in 12 cases associated with the May 9 rioting incidents.
In a separate development, the court also approved the bail petition of Awami Muslim League leader Sheikh Rasheed, who was accused of attacking the gate of a sensitive installation on May 9. The court granted bail after requiring Sheikh.
Rasheed to submit surety bonds worth Rs200,000. Following the submission of the bonds, the court instructed authorities to release Sheikh Rasheed.
